Be Careful! Your College ID Card May be a Debit Card!
When students receive school funding, the funds can be received by them in a number of methods. Tuition and room and board might be paid for their college directly, or the monies might go directly to the pupil who then will pay his or her university bills. In any event, monies for publications and other college expenses have to get into student hands, and many colleges are doing so by loading their student college ID cards with educational funding funds. Then a student ID becomes a debit card or a pre-paid money card.
These cards can be convenient and do enable students to handle their particular educational funding monies, but there is big catch that most students are not aware of with one of these cards.
That catch is there are charges, similar to bank fees, connected. The charges include charges for upkeep associated with card, for overdrafts, and even for using PIN numbers instead of signatures. This raises the concern: Why when your student aid be properly used for bank costs and never for you training!
Colleges and universities have already been enabling students to get their school funding funds on cards being processed through their bank lovers, and then the schools receive kickbacks. As of 2013 852 schools, 11% of all US universites and colleges, were peddling these card with their pupils. The agreements they will have with banks aren’t public, but in 2012 the usa Public Student analysis Group Education Fund unveiled an agreement between Ohio State University and Huntington Bank.
